About Sean

Born August 22nd, 1985 in New Bedford, Sean McNamee Gannon graduated from All Saints Elementary School in 1999 and Bishop Stang High School in 2003. As a child, Sean had endless energy. He loved play and used his creativity to turn everything into a game. He was always the protector of his younger siblings, Tim and Martha.

Sean graduated with honors from Westfield State University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Minor in Psychology. He painted and drew freelance, later designing the logo for his class at the Police Academy. His internships included Nantucket Police, Westfield Police, and he earned certifications as an EMT and Life Saving Instructor. Sean loved to travel and spent a semester in Seville, Spain during college. The thrill of adventure and new experiences led him to travel around Europe for the summer following his semester abroad.

Sean began his career as a campus police officer at Stonehill College. He graduated from the MBTA Municipal Police Academy and joined the Yarmouth Police Department (YPD) in 2010. He earned a master’s with honors from Massachusetts Maritime Academy with a degree in Emergency Management in 2011. At YPD, Sean was part of the Emergency Management Unit, a part-time member of the Proactive Anti-Crime Team, and he was the department’s first K-9 narcotics officer. Never one to seek attention, his colleagues described him as an officer who led by example.

Mutual friends introduced Sean and Dara during the summer of 2013. They shared a love for their dogs, the outdoors, having fun, and most of all, for each other. They were married three years later. They couldn’t have been happier.

Sean was a person of high moral integrity; he always wanted to do the right thing since he was a child. Sean was a loving son to both his parents and he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was kind, intelligent, insightful and compassionate, tempered with a wonderful sense of humor. Sean possessed an innate ability to read people. He loved to laugh. Whatever Sean did, he gave 100% of himself. He lived his life in service to others.
